This is a shot in the dark, and it may be of no help, but here is what I have.
The 1850 Ray County Missouri Census shows a BENJAMIN FAGIN, 13 yrs old, living in the household of ORANGE MOTT 62 yrs and HETHY MOTT 57 yrs. Others in this household are NANCY J. MOTT 16 yr, MARTHA? (hard to read) MOTT 14 yrs, LENETTE MOTT 8 yrs, so the parents are likely raising one of their unnamed daughters' offspring. ORANGE MOTT was also known as LOAMMIA ORANGE MOTT and had lived on Fagin Run and Donham Hill in Clermont County OH. Some of the neighbors were Wheelers, Donhams, Fagins. He had authorization to perform marriages in OH as a minister at the Ten Mile Baptist Church, which had a serious split in @ 1840. He was the father of my gggrandfather LOAMMIA ORANGE MOTT born 1823 in IN. For reasons that later may become obvious, I will refer to these gentlemen by their initials and their birth years, LOM 1789 and LOM 1823. I don't have any added info on the father or mother of B.Fagin, but if you are looking for a Benjamin Fagin born @ 1837, he is no longer in OH in 1850.
Sometime in the 1860's or 70's LOM1789 died. I don't know what happened to Benjamin Fagin, but if you are interested in searching for him, you might start in the area around Carroll and Ray counties, NE of Kansas City MO.
Our families were linked at one spot, at least. Do you have any info that might be useful in my research? I am interested in finding the full family, all the children from LOM1789 + Hethy.
Best wishes and thanks. Jim Mott, NM
