My great-great-grandmother Helena Fagundes, moved to Petropolis, Brazil with a family to be their housekeeper or nanny when she was about 15 years old from the Azores. While there she married my great-great-grandfather Augusto Fernandes (he was from Oporto, Portugal). While in Brazil they had their first 5 children: Dora, Cesar, Julia Maria(my great-grandmother)born in 1890, Olga, and Antonique. The family then moved to Serreta, Terceira, Ašores and had the other two children: Caroline and JosÚ. Helena died in Serreta. All of the children except for JosÚ moved to California. Does any of the info I have sound familiar to you, or do you know how I can go about getting marriage and birth (or baptismal) records from Petropolis. Is there a county or state within Brazil that Petropolis is located?
Thanks,
Deanne
