Hi Sheila: Have very little info on the Fahey family. I was not aware of the Fahey connection until I started the genealogy research. My father was Peter Joseph Madden born 12/26/07 in Canada. I had very little to go on except I knew his father's name was John Joseph Madden and he had an aunt Bridget (Madden) Lake and a deceased uncle named Peter Madden. I started by looking at the old City Directories for London, Ontario, Canada and found a Peter Madden around 1900 (the directories only list people who are employed. I then went back year to year and found that they were in London in 1891. Looked at 1891 Census and found:
Peter and wife Anne, both b. Ireland,
Peter, age 16,
John, age 10,
Bridget, age 14.
These children were all born in Canada.
Going back to the 1881 Census, I found the following:
Peter Madden, Head, Age 45, b. Ireland, Roman Catholic
Anne Madden, Wife, Age 40, b. Ireland, R.C.
Mary Madden, daughter, Age 16, b. England, R.C.
Elizabeth Madden, daughter, Age 13, b. England, R.C.
Sarah J. Madden, daughter, Age 9, Born England, R.C.
(other records show Sarah born in Canada)
Peter Madden, Age 6, b. Canada, R.C.
Bridget Madden, Age 3, b. Canada, R.C.
Ann Fahie (note spelling), widow, Age 70, b. Ireland, R.C.
Son John Joseph Madden was born in 1881 after census was taken. John's baptismal certificate shows parents as: Peter Madden and Anne Fahey. Therefore, I am only assuming that Bridget Fahey shown in the 1881 Census was Anne's mother.
I have no further information and I am at a brick wall. On the free BMD site, I did find a birth of Mary Madden in England, but don't know if this is the Mary shown above or not.
I have no knowledge where in Ireland the family came from but from the census, Peter and Anne were born in Ireland and at least two of the children were born in England. By my calculations they emigrated to Canada between 1868 and 1871.
If you have any information on this I would appreciate any help or suggestions as to where to look next.
