Betty McDowell -

It is quite possible. So I am told, the Fairbairns of Cockburnspath and The Cove were quite numerous. Well, numerous enough that most in the immediate area were related in some way or other. They were strict Church people and did not inbreed, but after 3 or 4 generations, cousins did marry. It certainly is possible that we have a common ancestor before Captain James. I have a trace of my genealogy to his son John, but have not yet found James's birth or marriage records to get his mother's and father's names. Still working on it, though. If you would like to be kept informed, drop me a line by e-mail.

Regards -
