Thomas Fairbairn - Elspeth Redpath 1800s
Posted by: Karen Grant Date: August 28, 2001 at 13:20:30

Looking for information on a Thomas Fairbairn, born Earlston, Scotland perhaps mid to late 1700s, believed to have married an Elspeth Redpath (daughter of Peter Redpath and Helen Melrose), also born in Scotland, or else he could have been married to a MacPhie. He left Scotland with his wife and children and went to Canada in 1826, settling on the Rideau Canal, where he appears to have worked as a stonemason in and around the Montreal area. Some known children are:
Helen b. 1808
Margaret b. 1811
Robert b. 1815
John b. 1817
Agnes b. 1819
and possibly others, all appearing to be born in Earlston.
