Dear Karen. I think it is correct to say that Thomas Fairbairn from Earlston, Scotland was married to Elspeth Redpath. I am related to his son John Fairbairn (1817-1903) who was born in Earlston and came with his father to Canada in 1826 (as you also state). I have a death notice for John Fairbairn (1903) which states that he was a nephew to Mr. John Redpath. I would assume this John was a brother of Elspeth. I'm also interested in finding more information on Thomas Fairbairn. I have a note that Thomas emigrated to Jones Falls, up the Ottawa River (maybe that is on the Rideau Canal??) His son John became a rather wealthy business man in Montreal. He was first a produce broker who was soon on the Board of Trade. He was a town alderman and headed the Finance Committee. If I find anything about Thomas I'll let you know. Sincerely, Virginia Stotz
