My great grandfather, Charles Fairburn, and wife Mary Bate, cameto USA, along with sister, Celia. He left seven brothers in Scotland. He was son of Elizabeth Purdie and George Fairbairn of Edinburg. Elizabeth's father, Thomas Purdie was a poacher, who got caught poaching on the land of Sir Walter Scott. It was a hanging offense, but instead, he became good friends with Scott, who then made him warden of his land.
