Since the original posting I have been able to get the marriage certificate for William Fairburn (b.1831, Ripon, Yorkshire) and Jane Atkinson (b.1839, Kenton, Northumberland). They married on 10 Oct 1857 in Auckland, Durham. His occupation was pitman and they were living in Crook.
The certificate says his father's name was William Fairburn, pitman, and her father was John Atkinson, pitman. Witnesses were John Fairburn and Robert Fairburn; I assume that they were probably his brothers.
I have found a William and Ann (? Robinson) Fairburn with sons Robert (b.1827) and John (b.1929) from Watton, Yorkshire. I am trying to find if there is any connection between them and if these could possibly be my marriage witnesses.
Has anyone researched these families and could help me with them?
