Probably a big coinidence but my ggggrandfather, James Fairbairn, married an Elisabeth Laidlaw on 27th April 1849 in Jedborough. Bearing in mind the rarity of both names, and the fact that all males born in my family up until the latest generation have been called James or John, perhaps there is some connection? Perhaps James F & John F were brothers who married the Laidlaw sisters??
Kind Regards
James Fairbairn
