For the most amazing, well written and inspiring story of the origins of the Fairbairn name find the internet article "Armstrong Origins". This is really "Fairbairn Origins", as the Armstrongs come from Fairbairns. Google parameters seem to shift. I found this online article recently by inputing "Fairbairn Armstrong Origins". I then chose "Origins of the Armstrongs". You'll discover Fairbairns have "Royal" roots.
