Correction for posterity:
Yes, the James nephew of James CROSER ortioner of Lanton Hall is the brother of my Walter (sons of Archibald FAIRBAIRN and Alison CROSER).
No, he wasn't the one who married Mary Bell/Mabel THOMSON as he married Joan FORSYTH and later Elizabeth LAIDLAW.
However, I do still believe that the James who married Mary Bell THOMSON will fit into the extended familiy somewhere, if only I could prove it.
Any male descendants out there still FAIRBAIRN and willing to join the FAIRBAIRN surname dna project to help me prove it?
