FYI, the Rev Andrew Martin FAIRBAIRN was the informant for his father's death and said his mother was Helen TAIT, and certainly the 1841 and 1851 census info shows a Helen FAIRBAIRN with the family that looks like the wife/mother.
Cert. shows John as a 72 yr old flour miller journeyman married to Helen Martin, died 3:30am of valvular dis of heart several days duration (certified); S/o James Fairbairn, farmer and Helen Tait, both dec., inf son A M Fairbairn of 18 Fairfield Pl, Aberdeen, reg 31st July
