Hi Robert and Keith,
Still out there and interested in the AINSLIE connection?

I've been joining dots and think I've cracked it.

http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/fairbairn/pats?raw=1#RobertJanetAINSLIE
is a very brief outline, oriented to dna participants (of which I don't think we've got any as it looks like a daughtered out line)
Somehow the brevity of those few lines doesn't seem quite enough for the hours and digging I've been doing, but it is very satisfying to have finally made it this far.

The hints that allowed me to find the connections were:
the Ainslie and Threlkeld names, and Warrah as a place connecting James Alexander and George father of George Oscar etc. That and a lot of digging in the BDM indexes and the National Library of Australia newspapers online
http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/

Jane Ainslie FAIRBAIRN doesn't actually show up on that chart, but she is the sister of Robert the Resident Magistrate in Freemantle, and married CONGDON.
Her niece Elizabeth Ainslie does show up.
Given I couldn't find the latter's death in the Australian death indexes online, maybe she lived to a ripe old age.
Capt Murray's daughter was presumably named for her.

Several trees have this lot thoroughly confused with the George Andrew FAIRBAIRN who married Louisa BARDEN.
That George is of the Marrickville line of James Henry FAIRBAIRN who tracks back to John and Elizabeth (YULE) FAIRBAIRN
See
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/fairbairn/pats?raw=1#yule
for some of those.
The two Georges' families overlap and cannot therefore be the same George FAIRBAIRN.

I don't believe that the claim of descent from Sir William FAIRBAIRN holds true at all
http://www.nswera.net.au/biogs/UNE0164b.htm

The links back to Robert and Janet look pretty solid to me Anyone with ancestry access can see the sources I've attached to this tree at
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/13096026/person/1173544721
Corrections and connections welcome.
Love to hear from anyone who can provide further information, particularly if they can disprove my assumption that the line has "daughtered" out, and may indeed manage to produce a representative for the dna project to see which family line it most closely fits with.

Regards
Lorna
