I'd be interested in hearing from anyone researching the following Fairweather family. Emily Ree was almost certainly my great-grandfather's sister.
Amelia Ree, born 24 November 1840. Her name is given as Emily and her age as six months in the 1841 census of Dunnichen. She is almost certainly the Emily Ree who married James Fairweather (?christened 26 June1840 in Arbroath, son of James Fairweather and Margaret White? or ?born 1840 in Arbroath, an unrecorded son of John Fairweather and Christina Towns, who married in Arbroath in 1839?; yarn bleacher in 1881), who was living at 13 Kinnaird Street, St Vigeans, in the 1881 census (aged 39, born at Letham of Dunnichen, name given as Emily R. Fairweather). There does not appear to be any record of their marriage in Scotland. They seem to have lived in France in the 1860s and to have left Scotland again after 1881, since there does not seem to be any record of them in the 1891 census, or any record of any marriage of any of the children before 1901. In addition, there is evidence that the family may have gone to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, since the names of several of the children appear as having obtained marriage licenses from the Orphans' Court there from 1890 onwards (the Orphans' Court appears to be responsible for all marriage licenses, not only for orphans). Emily Ree and James Fairweather had at least the following children, who were living with them in 1881:
(i) Mary L(indsay?) Fairweather, born in France about 1865, power loom weaver aged 16 in 1881
(ii) Emily Fairweather, born in France about 1867, winder in a power loom factory, aged 14, in 1881
(iii) James Fairweather, born in France about 1868, scholar aged 13 in 1881; possibly the James Fairweather listed in the Orphans' Court Marriage License Index for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as marrying ? O'Brien in 1890
(iv) Christina Towns Fairweather, born in Letham, Dunnichen in 1870, scholar aged 11 in 1881; possibly the Christina T. Fairweather listed in the Orphans' Court Marriage License Index for Philadelphia as marrying ? Wilson in 1891
(v) Isabella Ree Fairweather, born in Letham, Dunnichen, on 25 November 1871, scholar aged 9 in 1881; probably the Isabella Ree Fairweather listed in the Orphans' Court Marriage License Index for Philadelphia as marrying ? Watermyer in 1894
(vi) George Ree Fairweather, born in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, on 18 September 1873 (William Lindsay Ree (my g-grandfather) was also living in Stonehouse at that time); scholar aged 7 in 1881
(vii) William Ree Fairweather, born in Hutchesontown, Glasgow, in 1878, aged 3 in 1881
(viii) Margaret Alexander Fairweather, born in Arbroath in 1880, aged 1 in 1881; possibly the Margaret A. Fairweather listed in the Orphans' Court Marriage License Index for Philadelphia as marrying ? Denney in 1905
