Hi Helen,
Steven Fairweather posted a Fairweather family tree 1/13/11..in it there is a John Fairweather from the Angus area in Scotland. He was born in 1786 of parents William Fairweather and Ann Lousan. May be he is connecte to the John you are searching for. There were 7 brothers.
(I am from Jamaica but I have been researching the Fairweathers...)I am not sure if the St. Vigeans area you mention is in Scotland...I did a quick research. Hope this helps.
Steven seems to be a descendant from that set of Fairweathers
