Thanks for your response.

All I can tell you about Peter Faithfull is that he was born in Virginia (VA), and appointed a third assistant engineer in the Confederate States Navy on 8 July 1863. He served on the gunboat CSS SAVANNAH and was captured by Union forces on 20 August 1863 and held as a prisoner of war until 27 February 1865. He subsequently went back to duty and surrendered with Confederate forces at Greensbor, North Carolina, on 28 April 1865.

I feel Peter had pre-Civil War experience working on steamboat engines, thus his appoint in the Confederate Navy in that rank.

Many thanks,

Dave Sullivan
