VA Fallin yDNA Results

Dear List,

Last year I had a "67-marker, yDNA" analysis done by Family Tree DNA. I did this primarily because, thanks to work by the late Bill Porter, myself, and even Northumberland County's own Preston Haynie, I have an unusually strong "paper trail" back to Charles (I) Fallon/Fallon. My hope was that my yDNA would allow us to sort out some brick walls shown on the List.

My first surprise was that my DNA, while it did show the expected tie to Ireland, did not match with the Fallon family. Instead, it showed up with a series of strong matches with the "Phelan/Whelan/Ua Fáelain" group from County Waterford and south County Tipperary. Well, that blew up about 10% of my overall research! -- but it's definitely progress we couldn't have gotten any other way.

I also showed up as a close match with a "Charles Blenn Fallin" whose DNA was done at It is my assumption that this Charles B. Fallin is a member of the "southern branch," (GA, ALA) of the VA family, but I have not been able to contact him. If anybody knows Charles, please let him know I need to get in touch with him. If we can't connect, then I would like to get someone else from that southern branch to have his (unfortunately yDNA is only a male thing) DNA analyzed so we can confirm our combined VA line. If you are interested, please post a reply or contact me directly at

I know Lance Fallin has a long-standing question as to where his family falls between the VA and MD Fallins. Lance, if you would like to get started before we get a confirmed "southern branch" analysis, just get hold of me at and I will help you set it up.

Jack Fallin
