Hi, Kate,
Now, that's a question that I can't answer directly. John FALVY isn't exactly related to my line--at least, as far as I know. I'm having a terrible time trying to track my FALVEYs, but have found these other Falveys (John, Daniel, and Abby Murphy FALVY) in the same town I was researching (Fort Wayne, IN). I was under the impression that Falvey was a fairly rare name, so I figured that those FALVEYs and mine might be related, especially since one of them (Daniel) lived about four doors down from the FALVEY in our line! Little did I know that FALVEY was evidently a big name in County Kerry area for years before this family came to the US in the late 1860s.
I have absolutely no idea how my FALVEY got to the US. The problem is that my connection is through Johanna FALVEY, who married John KELLY (kinda like looking for John Smith around here) in Ireland. I thought I'd have it easy looking for what I also considered a less-common first name: Johanna. Wrong again. And, like all other good Irish families, they named their kids the usual: John, Catherine, Mary, etc. So I have absolutely no connection or even loose end to follow up on. The only thing I have is a family word-of-mouth tradition that they came from "the Lakes of Killarney" which is in Co Kerry. But as to which parish, I have no clue. The obit for Johanna FALVEY KELLY maddeningly mentioned that she had several brothers and sisters in Ireland, but only identified the location as County Kerry, and gave no names.
I'm trying to break the lock on this brick wall by following parallel tracks--seeing how far back I can push on lines of those that these people married, since I can't seem to find anything in Ireland at this point. I'm looking at parish records here in the US, in hopes that some diligent priest included baptism information on prospective brides and grooms whose childhood home was in Ireland. This stuff has to be somewhere!
Sorry I can't be of more help. Keep working on the siblings you know of, and maybe a clue will show up in one of their backgrounds.
Jacqi
