This summer we had an impromptu Fanberg Reunion in Grand Rapids at Rita VanderVen's home. We started with a little tour of the Meijer Gardens. It was a lot of fun for the cousins and everyone to run around the place (the outside gardens are fantastic). This was followed by a really relaxing time at Rita VanderVen's new home. Everyone lounged or played in the giant back gardens and of course, there was enough food for an army. This was just the Oscar Fanberg group and two of the grandchildren and their families could not make it.
My hopes are to do another newsletter with pictures from the last year or so and include greater-family tidbits in it at Christmas (sometimes my Christmas newsletter comes out at Easter) just to catch people up. If anyone else wants one, let me know.
Since I last talked with Mike or Craig or visited with anyone else, we have had some changes in our family. My husband John (Oscar Fanberg's son) had prostate cancer and has recovered beautifully. His brother Dan died of a brain tumor at the same time John had his surgery. This was difficult for everyone. Three years ago on a family trip to Latvia our son John met a wonderful woman, Lisa. They married the next year and last summer presented us with twin daughters.
Five years ago I became the director of the Muskegon County Substance Abuse Prevention Program and supervisor of Muskegon County Health Department's education and promotion division. It's quite a big job and has occupied much of my time, keeping me from family history work, which I love. Ah well, at least you know that we are alive and kicking and still want to stay in touch. -- Pat
