Fannin family inquiry
I have viewed postings on Ancestry and thought I was fairly confident that our John Fannin's line descended from Bryan/Laughlin/Benjamin line.As there are several John Fannins, it can get confusing. We are trying to trace my husband's gg grandmother, Sarah Ann (Dabbs) Fannin to this line.We visited the Decatur GA City Cemetery and saw the graves of John and Isalinda Fannin and their daughter, Isalinda Craig. With the help of the Cemetery Specialist, we located them and took photos. Although they did not turn out very legibly due to the condition of the markers which are very weathered.
I am quite certain that they are Sarah Ann Fannin's parents (and sister) as wills of John Fannin and Isalinda Craig list a Sara Ann (Dabbs) Fannin as an heir. But, was John in the line from Benjamin/Laughlin---or was he John H.,brother to Isham Fannin (Col. James Fannin's father) who was a son of James H. and Elizabeth Saffold Fannin?? I am still trying to unravel that mystery.
Sarah's birth place has been noted in accounts as Marion, GA. BUT, was it Marion County or the town of Marion that was in Twiggs County. (There were records of Fannins in Twiggs County).Did Isham and son, Col. Fannin, who was adopted by his maternal grandfather live in that region? Family stories were that Sarah was a sister to Col. Fannin, but my research revealed that he had a half sister only her name was not Sarah.
I hope that someone in either of these lines will see this post and give me more insight.
Thanks for any help.
