W F Brooks' History Confirmed re: Edmund Fanning
After years and years of conjecture Walter Frederic Brooks: "History of the Fanning Family to 1900" has been proven correct through the Fanning DNA Project.
Mr. Brooks stated that the Northern line of Fannings (Edmund -1653 immigrant to Conn. from Ireland) was not connected
with the line of Bryan Fannin(g) from Virginia. This is found on Page 804, Appendix I, regarding Colonel David Fanning, the Tory of North Carolina. This Col. David Fanning was the grandson of Bryan Fannin of Amelia Co., Va.
This fact is noted in the "Narrative of Col. David Fanning" written by himself and published in Richmond, Va. in 1861.
Recent test results have been received from a descendant
of Oscar Ford Fanning who was listed as #1207 on Page 549 of Brook's History. The DNA test confirms that the first 12 markers do not match those whose ancestry comes from Bryan Fannin (g) (Born ca. 1695 & died 1765) and wife, Elizabeth of Amelia County, Va.
This recent test also perfectly matches the test done earlier on a descendant of "Old Wiliam" Fanning who was mentioned as #65 on Page 194 of Brooks' history. These tests are exact matches in the first 12 markers. Further results are still pending for up to 67 markers.
Without a doubt Fanning & Fannin researchers alike can now lay to rest the question of the Northern family and the Virginia family's connection.
The DNA Project has proven itself to be extremely helpful.
If you are uncertain as to where your family fits in, why not contact the Fanning DNA Project?
