Origin of Farias name in NE Mexico
The Farias name seems to begin in NE Mexico with the coming of Juan Farias to Mazapil Zacatecas about 1580.He migrated to Saltillo, Coahuila and Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, participating in both municipal governments. Juan married Maria Trevino y Quintanilla. The pair had 6 children that I know of. The decendants of Juan Farias that I have knowledge of can be found by going to www.rootsweb.com and searching for Juan Farias.Hit the World Connect button off the
page that pops up to show query results. This process will show the genealogy of Juan's descendants that I am aware of. George Farias of San Antonio has written a book entitled "The Farias Chronicles, A History and Genealogy of a Portguese/Spanish Family". George describes the origin of the name, and the five root branches originating in Portugal.George details his family ancestry back to 1777 in Guerrero, Coahuila. The book may be purchased from Borderland Bookstore which George just happens to run.George has an online catalog of books his sells for hispanics to do genealogy and historical research. The url for the site is http://www.borderlandsbooks.comhttp://www.borderlandsbooks.com. The book maybe found in his catalog under his section called Hispanic Genealogy on page 7.There are alot of good books in his catalog. Many are hard to find elsewhere.
There are plenty of good databases at rootsweb.com.The query results page that popped when you did the search shows many valuable databases.Notably the Social Security death index, and the five Texas vital statistics databases dealing with birth, death, marriage, and divorce indexes for the state of Texas.I have found many relatives utilizing these resources.
Good luck to you all.
