Hi Justin, good hearing from you.
I've done some research on the Clayton name and had became a little confused on how it came about to be included in my line and why was it special enough to be continued on down. My oldest brother has the Clayton middle name as well, and he has named his son Clayton. From his son it's:
Floron Clayton IV > Floron Clayton III > F.C. Jr > F.C. Sr > Allen Knight > Green Clayton > Benjamin H > Robert Arthur > Robert Esq
Allen Knight has a brother James Clayton Faries.
As you mentioned, the only other Clayton I found was your Robert Esq > Moses > Robert Miller > John Clayton (mother Rachel Clayton Falls).
I've wonder if my Clayton-s had came from Rachel Clayton and if so why. Did Benjamin H purposely name his son Clayton because Robert Miller did; and if so why. That's a 17 year difference between when John Clayton was born (1836) and Green Clayton was born (1854) so that doesn't make sense. Either the case, Green is the end of the line of my Clayton-s.
Sorry not any help with this, I go back to it periodically but can never find any clues why Benjamin started using Clayton. I've concluded that it was a name in the family, they liked it, and started using it.
On a side note, just curious, did you every find any extra info on your Mose's Mary? The last I had heard on that is that the one initial story of her being Indian/part-Indian was unraveling some and that the story of her trip back East with just her kids, old horse, quilt, and family Bible had grown over time? In my notes I still have "Mary Miller? Indian?".
You wouldn't by chance know whose the father of Alexander Faries(b.1774 m.Mary Forbes)? He's not my line but I get asked about them periodically and always come up short. I have up to him as:
Wells "Lex" Alexander(b1926) > Joseph Wells(b1903) > Harvey Wilkens(b1878) > William Alexander(b.1846) > Alexander H(b1807) > Alexander(b1774 m.Mary Forbes) > and fall short here.
Thanks for writing!,
