In looking at your posting history I could not determine how experienced you might be at researching. It seems as though you have already accomplished a great deal.

Probably you are aware that you can send for a copy of your grandfatherís Social Security application, at a cost of $27.00 if his SS number is included. It should have the names of his parents, including his motherís maiden name.

I checked this morning and the 1940 Federal Census is due to be released Monday, April 2, 2012. NARA has indicated the forms have already been scanned and are being prepared for release in digitized form. That census certainly should include your grandfather, and hopefully place him with a family of parents and siblings. Do you know the names of any siblings who might have been born before 1930?

In doing a Google search I learned that Sgt. Elgie J. Farley was a POW of the Korean War. I am assuming that is your grandfather.
