In Reply to: Josie Farley ca. 1880 Summers, WV by Joan Farley of 3423

There were two Josie McCandlishes in the 1910 census for Hinton, Summers, West Virginia.

One was born Josie Louise Cook on 26 March 1880 in Summers County to Granville Cook and Mary E. Farley. This Josie married A.W. McCandlish on 25 December 1905 in Summers County. Then, as a widow, she died 13 January 1959 in Hinton, Summers, West Virginia.

In the 1910 census, Josie Cook Mccandlish and Arthur McCandlish had no children. I don't find them in the 1920 census, but in the 1930 census A.W. and Josie McCandlish have one child, an 18 year old son named James.

The second Josie McCandlish was born Josa May Farley on 15 October 1880 in Summers County to Alexander and Sarah P. Farley. She married W Eujine McCandlish on 21 June 1906 in Summers County.

In the 1910 census, Josie Farley McCandlish and Walter E. McCandlish had three children, Wanda P. age 3, and twins Eugene M. and Elva M., age 1 year, 10 months.

In the 1920 census, the family shows up as follows
Eugene McClandlish age 46
Josie McClandlish age 38
Wanda McClandlish age 12
Milton McClandlish age 11
Elba McClandlish age 11
Ralph McClandlish age 8
Ruth McClandlish age 3 years, 11 months

By the 1930 census, both parents have disappeared and Ralph is the head of the household. The entire household is:
Ralph McCandlish age 18
Wanda McCandlish age 22
Elva McCandlish age 21
Ruth McCandlish age 13
Irene McCandlish age 60 Aunt
Elizabeth Watson age 74 Aunt

I did not find death certificates for Josie Farley McCandlish, nor for Walter Eugene McCandlish.
