On 17 Feb 1860 at the OLD CHURCH, Fort William, Calcutta, India Ella Maude FARLOW was baptized. Her parents were William Edward FARLOW the Commander of the Flat “Lucknow” (See note below) and Jane FARLOW. At the baptism they gave their place of residence as: Calcutta.

Note: Re: The Profession of William Edward FARLOW – father of Ella Maude FARLOW. From "Lords of the East - The East India Co. and its Ships" by Jean Sutton, pub. by Conway Maritime Press Ltd., 1981:-

"The 'flats' or barges, 125 ft. in length with a 20 ft. beam, could take 4000 cu. ft. of cargo weighing 40 tons, and yet, when fully loaded, their draught did not exceed 20 in. Above the hold was the accommodation deck, 7 ft. high, divided into 14 passenger cabins of various sizes with a cuddy, bathrooms, pantry and store-room, butler's room, guard room and two cabins for the officers. The whole deck was surrounded by venetian blinds and the top deck protected by an awning.

The Marine Board arranged the schedule of services, a tug and flat sailing from Calcutta once every three weeks on average. The duration of the passages up to Allahabad and back depended on the season: during the monsoon the upriver journey took only 20 days and the return as little as a week with the current flowing very fast. In the dry season 24 and 15 days were normal. The Government controlled the Ganges navigation until 1846 when private enterprise took over. "

Does anyone have William Edward FARLOW or Ella Maud FARLOW 1860 - (?) in their line ?
