tabulation of American Farlows descended from Thomas Farlow, who came from England with the early settlers of Virginia." This
book is available on microfilm loan at LDS Family History Centers.
According to the book, William Farlow was born in 1754 and married Drucilla Allred, apparently in Randolph Co NC. One son, Nathan Farlow, was b 21 Jul 1790, d 12 Feb 1866, m/1 Martha Lewis 6 Oct 1814; m/2 Eliz. W. Reed 1 May 1849.
Nathan moved his family from Union Co IN to New London, Henry Co., Iowa, in 1842. His will, probated there on 12 Mar 1866, mentioned daughters Eliza Farlow and Charlotte Mason, son Samuel Farlow, stepson Jesse Reed, and the children of Nathan's deceased son William Farlow, who were Mary Jane Witt, Nancy Maria Farlow, Martha Ella Farlow and Thomas Farlow.
Son William was born 28 Jul 1815 and died 30 Sep 1851. Other children of Nathan and Martha Farlow were Drucilla (1820-1823), John (1830-1840) and Cynthia (1834-1847).
Rev. Samuel Farlow was born 3 Nov 1825 in Union Co IN and died 25 Nov 1906 at Indianola, Iowa, at the home of his son-in-law, John F. Schee. A detailed obituary appeared in the Indianola "Advocate-Tribune" of December 6.
Samuel began his career in the Methodist Church at the age of 18. He was married first in New London on 5 Sep 1850 to Isabella Mason, who died at Sidney, Iowa, in 1855. His second marriage took place at Clarinda, Iowa. His second wife's name is found variously spelled, and may have been Arbelia Riddle or Ribble. Samuel was survived by his widow, four sons and two daughters.
According to the Farlow book, the two children of Rev. Samuel Farlow by first wife Isabella Mason were Edgar J. (1851-1933, m Evaline Naomi Hall) and Charles (no dates); and those of his second marriage, born between about 1857 and 1878, were Wilbur F., George Nathan, Laura May, Mary Bell, Martha Ellen, Elmer Elsworth, Nellie Maud, Carrie Dell, Flora L., Samuel Lee, Ostinia Donna, Jesse P., and two unnamed children who died at birth.
Samuel's first wife, Isabella, was a sister of his sister Charlotte's husband, Robert Mason. Robert and Isabella were born in Scotland and came to Union Co IN with their parents, Robert and Mary Mason.
