At this point in US history a family's various branches might have more than one George Washington whoever.George was very!!!! popular. But to be serious, according to the 1880 census for New Haven, Oswego Co., NY George Farman age 68 [b. 1812] with wife Oenida [sic] age 70 and her 2 sisters, Jwba [sic] age 83 and Ann age 68 were all living together. His father was b. NH. The women's fathers were born RI and mother's in MA.The Sherman sisters never married. This Farman family is the only Farman in the entire 1880 census still iin Oswego Co.I hope that helps.
A further comment on the political part of the family. The record says they were all Republicans who did work on the campaigns of the Republican nominees. The faithful were always rewarded with plum appointments.(If you can a posting to Egpyt before air conditioning a plum?)Postmasters were always given to party workers. That's one of the reasons today wechanged to a so-called private system today and get to pay 37 cents per letter.I left all the political out and decided maybe I should add as you might find it interesting.
I am not a Farman. The reason I began to read the family material was the mention of Newbury, VT. One of my brick walls is Wyman Smith of Newbury, VT.I believe his son, Daniel P. Smith b. 1800 moved to Richland, Oswego co., NY, but can't prove it or disprove it.So I read everything about Newbury. In late life, Wyman removed to Piedmont, NH were in 1852 at 81 he died in the home of his daughter,Mrs. Asa Woodward.BUt there is no trace of Daniel P. Whenever you read about Newbury would you keep my problem in mind, please?
