In the death of MR. JAMES FARNES, who died at his home in this city last Friday, Decatur County is called upon to mourn one of her pioneer citizens, a man who had lived in this county continuously for more than fifty years, his death being due to a stroke of paralysis from which he first suffered about two years ago, and had been in declining health ever since.

MR. FARNES was born in Rock Bridge County, W.Va., July 4, l8l7, being at the time of his death, 86 years, l0 months and two days old. His early life was spent on a farm in West Virginia, and after his first marriage he lived for some years in Ohio, coming to Decatur County in l850, and resided in this county continuously, since that date. He was twice married, being the father of seventeen children, all of whom are living except three sons who died in the Army during the Civil War. His first wife was MISS TEMPERANCE HAYNES, to whom he was married in West Virginia, Feb. 28, l839. To them were born six children. The three eldest sons, WILLIAM, JAMES and AUGUSTUS all gave up their lives for their country, dying in the Army during the Civil War. MRS. MARY WEBB resides at Vandalia, Mo., MRS. NETTIE ZIMMERMAN at Bronaugh, Mo., and the son, JOHN FARNES, is a resident of Leon. MRS. FARNES died in Morgan Township, July 27, l86l. He was married the second time on Oct. 20, l862!
, to MISS PHOEBE E. BRIGHT, who died in this city on June 24, l900. To them were born eleven children, all of whom are living, HENRY, ALBERT, WESLEY, WALTER, FRED, DORA, JENNIE and MRS. LYDIA LEFOLLETT, who reside in this city; MRS. JULIA TROGDEN and MRS. LULU OSBORN, at Antelope Station, Wyoming, and MRS. ELECTA TEW, of Des Moines.

The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at the Advent Christian Church at 2:30 o'clock, the services being in charge of Elder A.E. Hatch, the interment being in the Leon Cemetery.
