Earline, The John L. Cormier (md. Mary Unknown) who owned the land in Toomey, LA was the son of Alexandre Cormier, Sr. John was the father of Lydia, John W., Azema, Caroline, Albert and Nettie Cormier. This John L. Cormier may also be the Civil War veteran as well but I can not be sure of that. This relationship to Alexandre Cormier is verified by the land deed sale of my twice great grandmother, Eliza Haskell Jackson, to William Perry. The 1880 census records also bears this out as John's neighbor is William Perry which shows him to be the correct John L. Cormier with the above listed children. I have tried again to find the parents of your John Cormier married to Mary Renna Farque but without luck. I will keep my eyes and ears open as I am always interested in the families that settled in the Toomey/Vinton, LA area. That area of SW Louisiana was an oil field area. Many people came to the area to work in the oil fields but were not born there. So I have looked in many other locations as far as census records but never did find any of your family. Oil companies are still drilling for oil in Toomey/Vinton, LA as we are getting royalty checks from the land owned by Savenia Sonnier who was my twice great grandfather. Not much money but is interesting that the oil is still there. 1880 Calcasieu Parish, LA census record Name Relation Marital Status Gender Race Age Birthplace Occupation Father's Birthplace Mother's Birthplace John L.
