I have a three inch thick Bible which could have belonged to your ancestor. It is incsribed in pen in the front: "The gift of Lord Wharton's Trustees, to John Farrer aged 7 years, P. K. Bowstead, B.D., Bampton School # 1828 #. The leather cover is imprinted "The Gift of Philip late Lord Wharton Distributed by his Lordship's Trustees, 1827." Inside it says: "..the Child before it shall recieve, or he entitled to receive, the Book, shall be taught to read, and be able to say by Heart the Cathechism, and some of the Prayers heewith sent, according to the Establishment of the Church of England, as well as the 1st, 15th, 25th, 37th, 101st, 113th, and 145th Psalms." This John Farrer would have been born in 1821. Is this the same manDanny Riketts email [email protected]
