James Russell Faulds was born Yellow Springs, Dauphin County, PA, 19 Apr 1853, to Mr. & Mrs. James Faulds. When he was a small child they moved to Glencoe, Wisconsin. James R. began writing for newspapers when he was 14 years old, and began teaching when he was 16. At the age of 27, he bought the plant of the Independence News, Independence, WI, and managed and published the paper for 4 years, and also was principal of the grade schools there.
In 1886, James R. came to Thompson Falls, MT, and began transporting goods from there to Murray, ID. In 1887, he was employed as a teacher in the Stephensville schools. In 1888, pre-empted and proved up on land and in Feb 1889, became secretary, editor, and manager of the Northwest Tribune. In Jul 1919, he disposed of his interest in the paper.
On 22 Apr 1886, just before coming to Montana, James married Miss Rosetta Mosiman, daughter of Christopher and Marie (Bracher) Mosiman. Faulds children: James Welcome, b. 1887, in Thompson Falls; Martha, Ruth, Russell, Kathryn, Elizabeth.
James R. Faulds died 12 Oct 1942, age 89, Ravalli County, MT, and is buried in Maplewood Cemetery in Stevensville, MT.
