Going through old correspondance, I came across something that might be of interest to you:
I have some information on my ggrandmother and am having a hard time going anywhere with what I have.I believe her name was Adesse Grignon. It may also be Edesse, or some version of the two. (Ida was also suggested by a friend of the family, but we don't that was her name)
I believe she was born around 1854 in Quebec, Canada.Around 1869 her family (her parents and herself, I don't know if there were other members of the family besides) went to Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.I believe they were traveling by canal boats. They met a Swiss citizen Arnold
Gottlieb Favre (17) on the canal boats I believe somewhere before Buffalo, N.Y.A romance began between Arnold and Adesse, and they got married either on the way to Prairie du Chien or at Prairie du Chien.I cannot find any records of a marriage certificate at Prairie, either at the
church or listed in the court house.I can't even find her name listed anywhere. But she and Arnold had 5 or 6 children in Prairie du Chien. She seems to have died of childbirth causes around March 1880.I can find
her grave in the St. Gabriel's Catholic Cemetery but the church doesn't have any information on her.Their oldest child was Elizabeth. Then came Henry James, Theodor Arnold, Walter Peter, Edward G, and the last was Edesse. She died in childbirth, and it appears the mother died shortly after that.I am a descendant from Elizabeth.
