Legend has told that Samuel Feaganes was born in Ireland and came to Virginia by hire of the Norman Family to run their mill in Stevensburg VA, In accordance with all census records that are found, it says on each one that Samuel Feaganes was born in Virginia,
Samuel was born 1815 and died 1896.
Samuel had a sister Elizabeth, who married Samuel Newlin in 1849 Rappahanock Co.VA
I have a picture of her, in her old age.
One the back of the picture it says Granddaddy Feaganes sister Elizabeth Newlin.
The picture belonged to my great great grandmother Ophie J.Brown.
I am still searching for a marriage location for Samuel and his wife Nancy Elizabeth Smith.
I found the death certificate for Nancy at the Culpeper Court House.
Nancy was born 1818 to John and Patty Hayne Smith and died Dec. 25, 1912
Samuel and Nancy's children were
Olivia Ann Feaganes b abt 1840
Amelia T. Feaganes b abt 1843 married Robert P. Claxton.
John R. b abt 1847 ( I have his photo as well)
George M. b abt 1850
Joseph b abt 1852
Samuel J. b abt 1853
Frances J. b abt 1855
On the marriage license of Elizabeth Feaganes it is listed: Ann Elizabeth Feaganes, father was James Feaganes deceased.
there are several deeds in Rappahanock Co, that I have not yet had the chance to go and copy, they list James, Hiram and Samuel Feaganes, this certain Samuel would be abt the age of Samuel from Culpeper. The James could be either his father or his brother and the Hiram most certainly a brother.
I'm a still very early into my search on Samuel, but most certain a decendant,
his daughter Olivia Ann was my gg grandmother who married Benjamin Landon Brown in Madison County VA 1873.
Their children were:
John Henry Brown b 1874 d 1964
Ophie Jane Brown b 1879 d 1953
Rice M Brown b 1880 d 1962
Anna Lee Brown b 1884 d 1971
