Starting Sept. 30, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum
message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles
will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will
no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.
I am Beverly Feemster Boykin, decendent of Henry Feemster whose father is William Bennett Feemster who had a twin brother named James (Jim) Feemster. That's as far back as I can go. My father lived in Alabama, but his parents moved from there to Pennsylvania, Ohio and subsequently, settled in Muncie, Indiana.
I am very much aware that there are the White Feemsters and African-American Feemsters. Needless to say, but I'll say it anyway, Thomas Jefferson wasn't the only White man that fathered children by a Black woman; hence the African-American line of Feemsters. To me race is a fact, not an issue.
Are you from the White "Feemster" lineage? I am from the African-American "Feemster" lineage...er...well, I'm, of course, also from the White Feemster lineage too, but I don't know that ancestral line, so I claim what I know and have identified with all my life.
