Starting Sept. 30, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum
message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles
will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will
no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.
I am looking for background information on my mother's father, James Feinstein. The little I have is that he came from somewhere in Russia (possibly "White Russia" or Kiev region or where Cossacks and Czar's troops operated) in the late 1800s or early 1900s and married (first wife's name unknown) but don't know whether he arrived single or with first wife already. He had a family with first wife and children somewhere in NJ (in Jersey City or Atlantic City (?), NJ) in the early 1900s and then divorced and moved to Cleveland OH in the period around 1910-15 or thereabouts. He remarried Rebecca Dworkin and had 9 children by her (Izidore-Edward, George, Eve, Rose, Mike, Nate, Pearl,Terri) including my mother (Sara Feinstein). When a young woman, an aunt of mine (Eve Feinstein) visited some of the first family in NJ in the early 1940s to try and establish contact but didn't get a good reception so the contact was never solidified. The first family child she visited may have been a dentist at the time. Because of the NJ connection and timing, it might be possible there are family connections. James Feinstein may even have had another name prior and changed it to James later. The family is Jewish. James was a house painter as far as I know. I am posting old family photos and documents on my website for any who would like to compare "notes". Email me if you have any information or questions. Joe Guth (firstname.lastname@example.org)
