Thanks for replying Chris.
After John Felan left the army in 1847 in England I have not been able to trace him, his wife Charlotte or their one son that I know of.
Their son John would have been 43 years old in 1880, so he would not have been the one who emigrated. There is always the possibility that it was his son. The age would be about right.
If I do find any further information I will be in touch.
