It doesn't have to be Germanic, I am looking at Fellers but have frequently found the name Fellows [which I think is English and Irish] altered to Fellers often within the same family in the same generation, it's been murder trying to put the family tree together, I have documents showing both spellings so now enter Fellers/Fellows as the surname. Went great guns with the research once I realised what had happened.
