My g-grandfather moved to OH from Germany around 1835. When he moved there his spelling was Feldmann and this shows up in all the census. When my grandfather moved to MI he changed his spelling to Feltman. They moved from Germany being Catholic. They were all Jews but changed their relgious beliefs under persecution.
