Hi Barbara, I have emailed you and Roy directly...I think that the middle names of James is Edmond or Edmund. I also think that his his Mother is Francis "miller" Feltman born in SC c. 1825. My line is from "possibly" Francis other? son , George McDuffie Feltman. The 1850 c. in Meriwether shows Francis with 3 boys, James, William and Jacob. George is living next door to them and he is older, but I still think he is the other brother. George was born around 1838, so I think that James would have been born later more around 1840 or so, even though his stone says 1838. I am writing off the top of my head, but think the 1850 c. would be the most accurate for his birth. Their father must have died in MS/AL before 1850 when they were all young. Francis died around 1859. My records show that brothers George and Jacob were also in the 28th regiment and died in the war in VA. Brother William was found later in Meriwether. I am currently exploring the francis possibility for the mother as well as a few possible fathers and am communicating with someone who does not think Francis is the mother. Please email me directly and we will be in touch with any new info.
