Judy and James:

I believe I know where a group of Mumpower/Felty/Tranbarger families once lived. My great great grandfather, James Plesant Wade, had a daughter who married John Felty (there is a message below this one on the Felty page). In searching for James P's farm, I went to a community in Bristol, Virginia called "Wallace." On Tranbarger Road in Wallace, there were two farms across the road from each other.

I spoke with a descendant of the original owners of one of the farms and she told me that it was a homeplace for the Mumpower family. In the cemetery on that farm, I located the gravestones of the following families: Felty, Lunsford, Tolbert, Snodgrass, Mitchell, and Hartsock. Many gravestones were just rocks or were no longer readable. It would seem logical that the farm across the road was owned by the Tranbarger family (since the road is named for them).

I visit that area twice a year and would be glad to look for the gravestones of the Tranbarger in that vicinity. I also have a contact who may be able to look up deed records on the properties.
