Dear David
Many thanks for your message.
I must confess I have not sought out the marriage certificate of Henry Yetton and Elizabeth Ferdinando.I got the nuggets of their marriage from an entry in the rough workhouse examination books for Bethnal Green which are held at the LMA.The reference is BeBG267/5 folio 108 which covers the dates 23 Nov 1847 to 22 Feb 1848 and the relevant entry is:
'Henry Yetton, 70 Green Street, aged 34, a Weaver 10 years in BG.Never (illegible).Married at Hackney on 19 Sept 1832 (cert produced) to Elizabeth Ferdinando, his present wife, aged 33.5 children, viz Elizabeth 13, Caroline 11, Eliza 9, Henry 6, Rebecca 1.Father John of No 1 Flint Court to be examined who attended and identified his son.See Exam last Book fo209.'
I can quote you that reference, but it only makes reference to himself and his sons, no further mention of Elizabeth F.
Marriage 'at Hackney' probably means St Johns, but as I said I've not got so far as searching for the actual cert, but perhaps her age of 33 helps pin her down?Do let me know.
I have been trawling through all the Bethnal Green workhouse records for Yettons and there are other Ferdinandos within them, but I'm afraid I did not take detailed notes, but it might be worth your having a look at them next time you are at the LMA.
I also discovered Rachel's marriage through the workhouse records (she and her sister Eliza were nieces of the above Henry Yetton, being daughters of his brother Gerrard). Her entry (ref BeBG267/11 folio 330) reads:
'Monday 7 July 1856.Alfred Jacob Ferdinando 27 weaver 7 Romans Lane. Now over 3 years from M.E.O.Town was married at South Hackney 24 August 1852 (C produced) to present wife Rachel formerly Yetton 26.Father 2 ch, Rachel 2 yrs, Elizth 10 mos.Father must attend.
'George Ferdinando as to his son as above was married St Botolph Aldgate 8 May 42(?) ago to present wife Elizth and had amongst others the above named. When first married took house of Mr Hawk No (blank) Sydney St at 5/- per week 6 or 8 months then removed to Spital St M.E.N.T. in a yard, 4/- per 18 months, afterwards to house of Mr T Bradshaw, 9 John St Bonners L at 4/- per week 4 years.'
(That entry was signed off with BG - no proof).
I have found Eliza and James Ferdinando on the 1881 census with various children, but I suspect you have as well.If not let me know and I'll send you the details.
Good to hear from you - maybe we'll dig up a few more facts between us.
