Actually, in our family, he's know as the "elusive Robert H" and we've been looking for him in Delaware for about 20 years. He's my ggg grandfather, and his son Benjamin Franklin Ferguson is my gg grandfather. Our best information on him comes from census records later in his life when he was living in Colorado with his son, my gg grandfather.
He was born in April 1814 in Delaware for sure, and most likely New Castle County. His wife was Susan/Susanna Hilderbrand and her family has lots of Allegheny, Pennsylvania connections, where Benjamin Franklin Ferguson was born.Susan died in 1863, according to the family bible of her grandson, Franklin Lee Ferguson.
I've spent almost all day today trying to find Robert H's parents in Delaware.According to Robert H's entry in the 1880 Colorado census, both of them were born in Delaware.I'm guessing we'll only find them with local birth or marriage records. There's a Hugh Ferguson in New Castle county that looks promising as Robert H's father, but I haven't found a solid connection yet.He married Rebecca Downing in 1806 and shows up in the 1810 and 1820 censuses in New Castle County.
I would love to trade more information at your convenience!
