I am a descendant of the Fergussons of Craigdarroch and have grown up with stories passed down for generations and have visited Craigdarroch with my husband and son. My great grandmother was Emily Fergusson born in 1848, in LaPlata Md. Her parents were William Fergusson born 15 Aug 1847, and Mary Millar. His parents were John Fergusson born1773 in Moniaive Scotland, and Elizabeth Hamilton b.1785 in?. What I am trying to determine is how John, and Robert Fergusson born 1745 are related. Both were born in Moniaive and both worked for John Glassford as sea merchants. There are the Robert Fergusson Papers at both Georgetown University and University of Maryland showing correspondence with Craigdarroch. Robert was the 1st owner of Mulberry Grove outside of Port Tobacco, Md. after John Hanson. He also owned a plantation in Nanjemoy, I believe growing tobacco. What I cannot find is the connection of where their parents were from Craigdarroch. I was always told we were descended from Annie Laurie, but cannot sort out the various Robert Cutlars. What I have found is the first Robert Cutlar was born in 1768 to Alexander , Anna Laurie's grandson, James'son with Euphemia Nisbit, who died in childbirth. I suspect the Robert and/or John are cousins, but from whom?
