Lest I add to the confusion, Miriam daughter of John and Margaret is reported to have married Samuel Fletcher.
I saw in the LDS Familysearch web site that Paul Lewis and Miriam Fernald were married 7 Jun 1790, in Kittery, ME.
I saw in the 1850 census for Waterboro, York, ME, a Miriam Lewis b. abt 1771, living in the household of Henry S. Lewis. Waterboro is about 30 miles north of Kittery. But she is most likely the wife of Joseph Lewis who was there since 1800.
Paul Lewis must have been in the service, as it looks like he was a Major in 1810 and Colonel in 1820.
Also from the census, it looks like they had at least 5 sons and 3 daughters.
Do you have the names of Paul and Miriam's children?
Are there any more clues in the will of her father John?
I'm afraid these internet sources are getting sketchy.
There doesn't seem to be much out there yet on Paul Lewis and Miriam Fernald. Definatly a digger!!
