Hi Andrew,
From what my uncle gathered as he put together our family tree, the Ferrari family originated in Northern Italy. There were three brothers who were blacksmiths. Two stayed in the North and one brother set himself up in the South of Italy in Calabria region. The name Ferrari in the Milan area is so common that it's equivalent would be like Smith in the USA. Mine come from the South and don't look like your typical Calabrese...very pale skinned, light eyes, but dark hair.
