Rupp wrote what he had been told and apparently he did not check the original sources which may not have been available to him during his lifetime. Today we have many of those resources available to us.
1. ALL of the records that I have collected from Germany to PA clearly state that Maria Warenbaur used her MAIDEN NAME in all her records. This was the custom of France. All women regardless of how many times they were married they ALWAYS retained their maiden name. The only record where Maria's name was incorrectly written is on her probate case in 1716. Therefore, from that one mistake she has gone down through our family tree and the books written about her with the INCORRECT name of Marie Ferree.
2. The Ferree family came in two distinct groups to NY. Daniel and Isaac LeFevre came in the first group with Rev. Kockerthal (sp) in 1708. Maria came with her other four issue in 1710 with Gov. Robert Hunter.
3. Someone had a wonderful imagination when they thought up the supposed meeting of the Ferrees and the Indians. If one does an indepth research of the history of Chester Co., they will easily see the flaws.
I am a descendant of Maria Warenbaur and have tried to research her life using documentation to have the true history of the Ferree family she brought to the British colonies.
