I have James J. Ferree, b. 16 Jun 1778, m. 16 Jun 1798 to Catherine LeFevre, d. 4 Jul 1854 in NC.
James was youngest brother of my ancestor Abraham who was b. 1776 in Lancaster County, PA.Abraham m. Lydia LeFevre (Catherine's sister) who was also b. in Lancaster County.Abraham went to Anne Arundel Co. MD (also in Montgomery Co.)in 1821 (?) where my grx3grandfather (James W.) was born.Abraham went on to OH, then IN where he died in 1830.
From this (speculating) I gather that your James Ferree was likely born in Lancaster Co., PA.He may have gone to MD at the same time as his brother (age about 43 if correct), but later went south to NC rather than west with his older brother.I would think he was close to his brother, since they married sisters, and were together in MD, and it seems possible my James W. was named for him.
I would be very interested in any MD information you can come up with--most of mine is from Emory Ferree.
