This person is related to my mother in law:John Marques Ferreira:
He was a 2nd Liet with the Honolulu Rifles Citizens Guard which befame the nat. gaurds of Hawaii later I have a photo of him along with Cat J. H. fisher and Lt. H. C. Meyer

I also have a photo of Maria Augusta Ferreira , she was his wife
I also have a copy of a newspaper article from 1915 but very hard to read

I also have a photo of the Honolulu Rigles of 1886

There is alot of information on John Marques Ferreira that can be found in the Honolulu Archievs next to the Palace .
John Marques Ferreira was a Sqt, the poruquese Arm, saw service in India, China and africa and Tismor. IN Honolulu he was a house paiter, policeman court interpreter and a lt. for the Honolulu rifles . and it became the natl guard of hawaii, and he was recongnized by the last King of Hawaii King Kalakana and was the first Poruguese policeman . He also served with the Courts of Hawaii as the Interperter for a long time. and spoke several diff. languages , He was survived by four daughters and a son and a brother the children being Mrs Alvaro C Frias, Mrs Louis G. Faria , Mrs Frank J. Muniz Jr. , Mrs Maunel M. Souza and Godfrey M. Ferreira and the brother is Manuel M. Ferreira of 541 south Beretania Street.and His wife : Mrs Maria A. Ferreira was a dressmaker who had Hawaian royalty amomg her clients She died on wed. at Malubia Hospital at the age of 83 in 1915 leaving 78 direct decendants. Mrs Maria Augusta Ferreira Bowers came here in 1883 with her first husband John m. Ferreria whos varied careers included such jobs as court interpreter , policeman, officer in King Kalakauas court and after his death in 1911 she married Glenwood H. Bowers a career army officer and he did in 1939. Mrs bowers had 14 children by her first marriage and none by her second . five of her children survive , she asl leaves 20 grandchildren and 48 greatgrand children and 5 great great grandchildren who live all over the world. She was born feb 5 in Funchal Madeira Island in Portugal where she learn the trade as a dressmaker and operated a dress shop for yars in Kaimuki at 12th st. and waialae ave. now ben franklin store. her sigh outside read Mrs Bowers dressmaker. According to a grandson Douglas Frias . Mrs bowers was in good health until 20 years ago and been residing in the nursing home untill her death. Her hearing was poor and her sight and speech was good . she died of bronchial complications . graveside services will be conducted by the Roman Catholic Church at 10am friday at punchbowl cemetery, she is survied by Winifred G. Watson (my mother in laws mother) Mrs Philomina Faria, Georgina Moniz, Ester Farla of Haywood Calif. and Godfrey Ferreira of San Diego Calif.
