Hello Kasey,
I'm writing you in regards to Ferreira's in Massachusetts.
In fact if they were born in Azore's they are not Portugese. My mother though the same thing until I read the death certificate of my G Grandfather Manuel T Ferreira. Who in fact was born in St.Michael's Azores. He is a nationality of Azorean. Potugal was never discovered until later on. And the Azorean Islands was never added as a part of Portugal until the late 1900's The Azorean Island's is made up of 7 Islands. I did a google search on that info being I have never heard of Azore's before. So I hope my info is helpful.
